From the Temple Review, Winter 1991: "A wire recorder was demonstrated in a speech class at Temple by John B. Roberts (left), now professor emeritus of communications. The apparatus was also used in radio classes to check and improve voices. Roberts, familiar to Philadelphians as a radio and TV news anchor for 25 years, founded Temple's radio station WRTI in 1948. He also served as chairman of the University's Department of Radio-Television-Film, the first program in the country to grant a degree in radio."
(Mike Muderick tells us that the wire recorder is a Webster Chicago Model 80 (he has two). Jerry Klein also has one.)
