: Found this article about WRTI and their half classical format in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The article about their half-(cl)ass(ical) programming was very interesting. I especially loved the repeat of The Big Lie that was told when they axed the AM--that there would be more student opportunities after the change.
Here's the new version:
University officials
are so buoyed by the results that they are studying a
plan to move the station
into Temple's new Apollo sports and
entertainment complex. Plans are underway
to broadcast concerts
from Rock Hall, and "there'll be a lot more training" for
student
newscasters, vice president Thomas Maxey said last week at
WRTI's
45th anniversary party.
Right. Move the station wwwwwaaaaayyyyy fffffaaaaaarrrrrrrr aaaawwwwwaaaaayyyyyyy from the students and there will be more training for student NEWSCASTERS>
We now have a new BIG LIE:
#1.
The check is in the mail.
#2. I love you.
#3. The move to expensive distant studios
and the hiring of professional broadcasters will result in more training opportunities for students
at WRTI.
Did you also see that they had a big windfall of pledge week giving. Where is all that money going to? New studios and pro salaries, but probably not to student training.
Hey, has anyone found out anything about that proposed student-run station???
