On July 16, 1998, Gerry Wilkinson spoke with Tobias Poole, the Station Manager of WRTI. He stated that beginning in September, Temple will have a student run radio station. Broadcasting on FM and using the calls, WHIP, programming will originate from the Student Activities Center and broadcast using a variant on the old WRTI 1948 system (called Wired-Wireless). The station will have wiring laid out across the second story of the building with the signal originating from there. The University, at Tobias' urging has already purchased equipment. In the near future, the broadcasts will only be able to be heard inside the SAC building. However, at a later date, Temple is planning to also transmit the signal into the dormitories including the one that will be built on the site of Thomas Hall.
