I first met Ed Sciaky in September of 1965. We'll in our 33rd year of friendship. But I think
WMMR has missed the boat. Ed Sciaky isn't too old to play Classic Rock. He's a legend in this
field. Knowing the music better than any 22 year-old could, Ed has experience and knowledge.
Since when has experience and knowledge been dirty words? When you go into a store to buy
something and need a little advice, who you want...a clerk with no experience or knowledge. I
think not. You want the most experienced person in the store. Radio is no different. You want
someone playing the music who has the knowledge and experience to play a good mix of songs.
You need a person who knows every beat, every note of every classic rock song. That's Ed
Sciaky. Yes, I biased. I know quality. I also know Ed. Greater Media, owners of WMMR seem
to think the kids have all the money and buy all their advertiser's products. My daughters only
have whatever money their parents give them. In our house, the parents control the purse strings.
We are the ones the advertisers should be trying to attract. It's experience, not age that count.
Does anyone remember John Zacherly? He hosted the Monster Movies on Channel 10 in the
fifties. He went to NYC in the sixties and used the name Zacherle. In 1968, when WNEW-FM
started their underground format, they thought it would be a great publicity event to have
Zacherle play some music. Well, the public loved it. John Zacherley played rock into his mid
70's. He was the oldest, highly rated rock DJ in the country. New owners came in a few years
ago and he was gone and so were their ratings. The audience isn't as stupid as the radio
programmers would have us believe. The audience knows knowledge and experience. ed will
land on his feet at some station. This, I know. Where or When...we can only hope soon.
Philadelphia should not be denied this radio legend.
