Joel Albert
His Story
The following is an e-mail from Joel Albert to Gerry Wilkinson...
I tried to e-mail you the other day from my ATT Worldnet connection but the mail is messed up. I have identified the "unidentified" guy on the left in Scan # 4 featuring Norman Childs and Ed Keen. It's me. I enjoyed rummaging around the site the other day. Gotta go to work now... freelancing at NBC. In an earlier e-mail, Joel said that he is retired from WRC-TV where he was the News Operations Manager. However, he does freelance work for them from time to time. Some other info we found out.... Also, here is Joel Albert's Profile from the AOL's Member Directory. This is the WRTI Old Gang Web Site.
Joel Albert
He recalls being FM News Director at WRTI in the late fifties, and was graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Temple's School of Business in 1958. In the October 1956 WRTI Program Guide, Joel is listed on the WRTI-FM staff as being in charge of FILMS. (Can someone explain this?) Looking at the April 1958 Program Guide, he was listed as "Station Manager of the AM Outlet." It says, he's a "senior from Philadelphia, directed a weekly educational program on WFIL, Philadelphia, and currently works in the newsroom of WRCV." According to the October 1958/January 1959 WRTI Program Guide, "Joel Albert who was a news writer for WRCV-TV, has moved over to WPEN, where he's now their City Hall and Special Events reporter." Joel retired in August 1995. He was a producer in the 60's and 70's at NBC O & O's, first in Cleveland, then Washington, D.C. Then, upward to Management for 20 years at WRC-TV as News Operations Manager. In all, 39 years in TV (and some radio) newsrooms. For more details, read what he says about news operations Today and Yesterday. (You will have to scroll down a little to find him). We also found an article about how TV covered the Big Blizzard of 1993. Joel Albert and WRC-TV are featured.
