Doris Elvanian (Wannemacher)
What We Know
The following is written by Gerry Wilkinson....
On Tuesday, May 5, 1998, I spoke to Doris Elvanian, now Doris Wannemacher on the telephone. She works in the Audio-Visual Department of Shared Medical Systems Corporation. According to the company, "We create information solutions for the health industry, through systems and services designed to help health organizations improve their quality of care, financial performance, and strategic position." She was graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor's Degree in Radio-Television-Speech from the School of Business. Her years at WRTI were from 1954 to 1958. She had worked with Jane Lazarus (a.k.a. Jane Norman) at WCAU-TV when Jane was doing her "Pixanne" show. According to the April 1958 WRTI Program Guide, Doris was "Co-Director of Promotion and Public Relations." In the next issue, October 1958-January 1959, under "Alumni News Notes," Doris was mentioned. It said, Doris mentioned to me that one day, she and another WRTI staffer went down to the old Warwick Hotel. There they met and interviewed for the station, actor Henry Fonda. I wonder if any copies of that program still exist? On November 16, 1957, The Temple University News ran an article about Doris. She had won the "Miss Checkroom" contest, one that she never even entered. Get the details.Irv Margolis has packed lots of experience into the short time since he's graduated. Started at WRCV in news, shortly thereafter was named News Director for WVUE-TV, then beat that station's closing by going into business for himself. He's actually a business partner in three firms producing industrial films, and among other things, printing this program guide. Doris Elvanian, who graduated in June, has joined Irv's firm.
