What Bob Cirillo Said"It is certain, however, that the young men and women who attended those early classes soon became Dr. Conwell's 'Diamonds' ... just as the educational facilities he offered them became their Acres of Diamonds."

"Acres of Diamonds" - A Man, A Lecture, A University. The printed introduction to university life, given to every freshman, upon enrollment, as a student attending Temple University.

As a graduate of Temple University, class of 1966, and a former station manager of Temple Radio, WRTI-FM, I am voicing my opposition to the demolition of Thomas Hall.

Throughout the 1950's, '60's and '70's, hundreds of historical buildings of architectural significance were demolished in every state and city of this great country - only to realize years later - This was a terrible mistake. History, beauty, art and tradition were erased from the face of the earth -forever.

For the new millennium, what will the university administrators offer the alumni, present and future students and the City of Philadelphia? - A university founded by Dr. Conwell in 1884 rich and abundant in historic accomplishment, represented by its new and preserved structures and excellence in education - "Acres of Diamonds", if you will. - or acre after acquired acre of concrete artless sameness and lower academic standards.

There are many acres of land, within and adjacent to the Temple University campus. The options are endless.

Do not repeat the mistakes of the past. Preserve Thomas Hall for the future. - Preserve history, excellence, art, beauty and tradition.

Thank you.

"I could have gone anywhere - I chose Temple."
