An e-mail from Ron Wertheimer to Gerry Wilkinson....Wow! That's some Web site you've got there. What memories. What laughts. I just finished looking at those 60's pictures with my son who's almost 24, several years older than I was in those photos. Thanks for the nostalgia trip. By all means, please post my addresses. By E-mail, I'm at werthe@cybernex.net (home) or rowert@nytimes.com (work). My home address is 587 Penn Ave., Teaneck, N.J. 07666. Very briefly, I've been an editor at The New York Times since 1988. Currently, I'm on the Culture Desk, working on the daily Arts section. Before that, I spent 20 years on The Record of Hackensack, N.J., where I was a reporter, columnist and editor. I taught some college writing courses had two comic novels published in the 80's, but I never got to give up the day job (or in the case of newspaper work, sometimes the night job). I met Karen Greenberg while I was at Temple. She was at Penn. Smart lady. She married me ayway, in 1968. She's now a fund-raising executive at the national office of the March of Dimes. Our son, Adam, just got his master's at Georgia Tech and is going to work for Bellcore in January. Our daughter, Sarah, is a junior at Hofstra University. I still think fondly of my days at WRTI. And after today, I'll think of them more often. All the best, Ron Wertheimer
An e-mail from Ron Wertheimer to Jerry Klein....I'm sure it's just a matter of time until the Smithsonian releases a CD of our greatest hits. Until then, I'm glad that someone saved the evidence of our optimistic energy.
Information culled from a telephone conversation between Fran Odyniec and Gerry Wilkinson....A few years ago, Fran was in a bookstore and looked through the reduced section. There he found a book written by Ron Wertheimer. Fran thought...do I really want to spend a dollar for this book? After a few minutes, he decided to get it. It is still on his shelf unread. It is called, "The Rutherford B. Hayes Show." It's about a radio station, WYUM. I wonder if some of the characters were based on anyone he knew at WRTI. (Ron--hope you get royalities on the bargain books, too.) Now Fran thinks he will read it...maybe...soon...if he gets time....when he's not shampooing his hair....
This is the WRTI Old Gang Web Site!
