1964 Elections

Thank You from Bill Stock

The following is a recreation using HTML....MEMO TO ALL ELECTION NIGHT STAFFERS..........

Dear Group,

Where can I begin to express my gratitude and sheer delight with your efforts on election night? Without a doubt, this was the most exciting and most professional radio broadcast I have ever taken part in, and I have all of you to thank for it.

To say the least, the entire WIBF staff was simply amazed at the quality and professional sound of our presentation, and well they should have been, because whether you realize it or not:

We scooped most stations in the announcement of Johnson's victory. Drexel called WIBF to find out where we got our information. By the way, where did we get our information?

We had exclusive interviews with the following people: Hugh Scott, John B. Kelly, Jr., James E. Staudinger, William D. Searle, Walter Farley, Allen B. Williams, Paul D'Ortona, Wilmot E. Fleming, and two (count ‘em) two interviews with Mayor Tate.

I simply don't have the space to thank all of you by name, but there are a few that I simply must single out. First Joe Horowitz and Joan Honig, two old salts in this radio business who took the anchoring job to their hearts. Intelligent commentary was the order of the day from these two, and every once in a while, Joan gave some "scores." (Right Joan)?

And the world will long remember that great team of Joanquin-Larry-Joaquin-Larry-Joanquin- Larry. How many people were at that returns desk anyway? Seriously guys, just beautiful. John Dean, WIBF Program Director, commented about your fine voices and intelligent delivery.

Simmy, just great! What a talented finger! This one carried on in spite of illness which serves to indicate the type of dedication that all of you had that night.

My engineering staff, headed by Al and Warren, who combed practically every radio store in the city for the "elusive connecting cable" that even the phone company didn't know about. Sam Strauss, Steve Tannenbaum, Mike Muderick and Harry Metz...Fantastic! What else can I say?

And of course the phone reporters, who, as evidenced by the third paragraph, weren't letting any grass grow under their feet. (You are all invited to attend Mickey Saperstone's trial...Mickey vs. Bell Tel.)

And those wonderful, wonderful people in the studio who worked so hard behind the scenes to make our announcers sound so authoritative.

Well, the end of the paper is in sight, and so let me just once again thank you sincerely from the bottom of my little black heart. You have made me one happy little kid. And always remember, when Temple Radio staffers work together, we are invincible!!!!!

I love you...I love you...I love you...I love you
Bill
