The following is an e-mail from Norm Childs to Jerry Klein....Great to hear from you and learn of the WRTI home pages and today's anniversary. Wish I had known earlier, I would have taken the day off and come up from DC to attend. It would be great to see all of you again. As for me, I've just completed one year here in Washington at the Government Relations Divison of the National American Lung Association. I manage the Accredited Policy Program, which means I consult with state lung associations to help them improve their local advocacy work, and if they do, we accredit their program. In my spare time here I'm deeply involved with the national tobacco settlement trying to make sure the American public doesn't get screwed again by the tobacco industry. I'll try and dig up some old WRTI photos from my days, 1955-59 and send for the home page as well as a current one. You can publish my e mail addresses on the site. Give my love to Anne.
Best,
Norm
The following is an e-mail from Norm Childs to Jerry Klein....
As promised, some photos. The file attached...shows a current Norm looking over Norm's shoulder in a WRTI control room in 1959. Behind me is Stan Saltzman, then a graduate assistant. Stan went on to be head of Medical Communications at TU Hospital until his death a few years ago....
Love to Anne,
Hi Jerry,
Best Wishes,
Norm
Norm's daughter, Susan Childs has a fantastic site all about Stevie Nicks. If you are interested in her or Fleetwood Mac, check it out. Sister of the Moon: The Magic of Stevie Nicks
In an e-mail from Susan Childs to Gerry Wilkinson, she states that she has two cats, Max and Miss Lucy. In another e-mail, she writes, "Thanks for asking about my two cats....actually, I brought them with me from Virginia (where I was living until my mother died a few years ago). So when I moved back home to take care of Grandma (who lives with me), she and my dad adopted the cats too....one big happy family. I think my cats are thrilled to be living in a big house now, after some of the tiny apartments I had before. As you know, my dad now has his own apartment in Maryland because of his job, but when he comes home on weekends, I'm not always sure if he's more glad to see me or those cats (grin)."
A 1958 Message from the Station Manager (Norm Childs)
Towards the end of 1999, we received an e-mail from Norm Childs. He said, "...Sorry I have been kind of quiet lately. ...Very, very busy at work. All is going well though. Got promoted. Title is now Director, Field Advocacy for the American Lung Association."
