Paul (Dutchman) Hammer was all fouled-up with a 78 rpm record on his Music Thru the Morning show one recent Saturday morning. It took him 2 1/2 minutes to finally figure what was wrong.

His mike was on and he didn't know it so on to the air-check tape: "What the %d#1 happened?"

Robin Pollock, assistant in traffic, typed on the FM log: "Spotlight Raped in Studio B by Bloss" instead of "Spolight Taped..."

CONGRATS TO:

Noodles Levin, Marian Lobel and All Callahan for surprising Russ with a birthday party Monday in studio A. The food was 'yummy.' Mr. Collentine and even Harold were there.

Russ Bomberger for being accepted to Iowa State for graduate work. He leaves in June to accept an assistantship.

Temple University Theater and RTIers Ivan Shaner, Joe Green and Gary Gumpert for ALL MY SONS.

----------

Best of luck to Claire Coleman, T.U. grad and a former WRTI staffer who became engaged. Her fiancee works in advertising. Claire is known as "Miss Claire" by Philadelphia youngsters who watch each day her television show, ROMPER ROOM on WFIL-TV, Channel 6, the Voice of the Delaware Valley, USA.

Gil Thompson and Emily Aaron sang together on TWO ON A NOTE and a year later, they were married.

At 6 each evening, we carried Penn, which came in when line two was thrown to the left. Our announcer went out to dinner, usually leaving the station deserted. At 6:50, he would return and pick up the net music show at the end of a record and continue his local show.

Joel Albert and the special events crew set up in Mitten Hall West alcove Friday to tape the special program of Oscar Peterson and trio. The show was taped back in the studios. Peterson is billed as the "world's greatest jazz pianist."

WRTI: THE WEEK IN REVIEW...

A welcome home to Al Schaaf; he's in town on a 14 day leave. He stopped down to RTI Friday.

Joel Albert brought a 4 piece band down to OPEN HOUSE on Wednesday. On the sax was Martin Sandrey; bass, Charles Rappa; piano, George Cohen, and Albert was beating the skins.

Paul Jeffers, Dan Wood, Joan Kernis, Ed Eisen, Tom Hughs, Jane Lazarus and Steve Yedenock were at WFIL-TV Thursday night as guest players for Lew Klein's television class production.

Yedenock read the FM sign-off Friday...only he picked up the sign-on copy instead. It went something like: "WRTI-FM now begins - - - to end its broadcast day..."

CLIPPING SERVICE:
(reprinted from Frank Brookhouser's column, The Evening Bulletin)

VERSATILITY: WHAT disk jockey Gene Shay (IVAN SHANER) will play a featured role in the Temple University Theater's production of "All My Sons" this weekend. He's a sophomore at the school, majoring in radio broadcasting, emcees a live talent show (OPEN HOUSE) on Temple's educational station, WRTI-FM.

The delay in the return of the Magnacorders is caused because the repair firm has had to send to the company for replacement parts...some odd gismo they don't keep on hand. If it weren't for Bob Lamb's new Revere and Paul Hammer's RCA recorders, I don't know what FM would be using. The Ampex is not for general FM use.

Don't tell anyone but we've received a NEW Ampex 600 and an Electro-Voice dynamic mike. They're ours. The Ampex we've been using has been on loan for the duration of the Mags' absence.

Mr. Roberts is under the weather with a cold; your announcing class misses you.

Steve Cohen did April an April air-check tape for (sponsor) Lucky Strikes...

Betsy Waldman has been working at WPTZ as production assistant to Benn Squires for STAND BY BROADWAY talent hunt. We hear though, the show's leaving the air soon.

Bill Wotring added to the Saturday broadcast line-up.
