In 1962, Gerry Wilkinson while attending Overbrook High School met a fellow living a block away named Leroy Schuler. Later that same year, Leroy started an illegal, bootleg radio station, WSCH in his home in West Philadelphia. It was a low powered AM station (1400 on the dial, later at 1160) which could be heard within 15 feet of the SEPTA Route 10 trolley wires.
Gerry became associated with the station in early 1963. The station played current rock and oldies and interviewed neighborhood musicians. Two of the people interviewed by Gerry and Leroy later went on with two others to form the soul group, the Delfonics. The station also broadcast a telephone interview with fellow Overbrook High rock star, Dee Dee Sharp.
Leroy Schuler, a well-known local musician had moderate success several years ago performing under the hip hop name of Shu' Baby. "Lee" has played with many of the nation's top artists throughout his 35 year career.
